The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is experiencing a significant internal rift, with factions led by Dr Oburu Oginga and Governor James Orengo clashing over the party's direction, particularly regarding support for President William Ruto's re-election bid. The party is holding a three-day retreat in Mombasa to strategize for the 2027 general election amidst growing internal divisions and fears of encroachment by President William Ruto's UDA party. Siaya Governor James Orengo was separately disrupted and forced to leave a funeral ceremony in Seme on Saturday following heckling and confrontation from a section of youths. Homa Bay Governor and ODM chairperson Gladys Wanga is facing significant political challenges that threaten her leadership, just a year after becoming the region's first female governor.
