Government launches KSh1 trillion agriculture investment plan - July 2026
The Kenyan government has launched the National Agri-Food Systems Investment Plan (NASIP), a significant KSh1 trillion framework designed to revolutionize the country's agricultural sector. Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i has criticized the government's decision to allow rice imports, arguing it undermines local farmers, particularly those in Mwea. In Kilifi County, farmers are set to benefit from a new market for their produce following the establishment of a fruit processing plant in Malindi. Additionally, 250 fishermen and marine economy stakeholders in Kilifi County have received a significant boost with the donation of fishing gear valued at KSh 12 million.
