China has granted Kenya and 52 other African nations duty-free access to its vast consumer market, a significant trade concession offering new growth avenues for Kenyan exporters. Separately, Kenya has formally entered the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), aiming to boost its manufacturing exports, but faces significant non-tariff barriers hindering its success. Additionally, Kenya is considering a Sh27.8 billion biotechnology and pharmaceutical manufacturing park at Konza Technopolis to significantly reduce reliance on imported medicines and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
