DCP's Ol Kalou Win Triggers Rift Valley Election Concerns - July 2026
Douglas Kamau Waweru of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) won the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, defeating the UDA candidate. This victory has raised concerns in the Rift Valley, with some political leaders viewing it as a warning for the 2027 General Election. Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja blamed a powerful clique within President William Ruto's inner circle for the growing woes and recent electoral defeats of the UDA party. Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina accused the government of orchestrating violence during the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election and failing to ensure citizen safety. Meanwhile, Oburu Oginga, ODM Party Leader, stated that the broad-based Government remains strong despite losing the Ol Kalou by-election, downplaying the loss as a minor setback.
