The Kenya Red Cross has issued a stark warning that over 2 million people are at risk from the anticipated El Niño rains between October and December 2026, with 46 out of 47 counties potentially affected. The Democratic Republic of Congo is at a critical juncture in combating the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, which has become its deadliest outbreak to date with over 6,186 confirmed cases and 3,007 deaths since May 2026. The Kenyan government has separately formed a specialized multi-agency team to monitor non-profit organisations (NPOs) at risk of financing terrorism, targeting NPOs in what authorities describe as a financing crackdown.
