The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has suspended all mining operations in the Kambi Karai and Lami Nyeusi region along River Turkwel in Sigor Constituency following numerous complaints about illicit mining activities.

Over 200 gold mining sites were operating without necessary Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) licenses.
The authority will inspect the sites during the closure to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Recently, a mining accident in Turkwel, West Pokot County led to the deaths of four people and injuries to several others due to collapsing soil.
