The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has summoned Eliud Lagat, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, to provide a statement regarding the death of Albert Ojwang’ while in police custody. Ojwang’, a teacher and blogger, died shortly after his arrest on June 6 for alleged defamation.

• 20 police officers, including Inspector Samuel Ng’ang’a, are involved in the investigation.
• Lagat has stepped aside to facilitate an independent investigation.
