The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is implementing digital reforms to transform the value-added tax (VAT) into the leading tax category in Kenya.

• VAT collection in the 2023/25 fiscal year reached Sh314.157 billion, up from the previous year, driven by the electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS).
• The initiative is led by George Obell, Medium and Small Taxpayers Commissioner, who aims to enhance VAT compliance and revenue.
• eTIMS enables real-time transaction monitoring, reducing fraud and streamlining the VAT return process for merchants.
