Following two patient murders at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) this year, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has issued urgent directives to all national referral hospitals aimed at enhancing patient safety and security.

• New mandates include mandatory CCTV cameras, limited patient visits to two per patient, compulsory visitor screening, and routine safety checks.
• CS Duale also ordered hospitals to implement anonymous feedback tools and provide staff training on patient rights and safety.
• Hospitals are directed to collaborate with the Ministry of Interior and community leaders to support abandoned patients, addressing a situation similar to that of the murder suspect.
