The Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has commenced geothermal exploration in Tanzania's Mbeya region, marking an expansion of its clean energy initiatives across Africa. This project aligns with the Paris Climate Agreement (2015) goals to reduce carbon emissions.

• Over thirty workers, including senior engineers, are on-site in Mbeya, Tanzania, to set up a drilling rig for the exploration.
• KenGen, led by chief executive Peter Njenga, is also conducting drilling operations in Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Eswatini.
• The company is in the final phase of revamping the Olkaria I geothermal power plant in Naivasha, with the successful delivery and installation of the third and final steam turbine generator unit expected to add an additional 63 megawatts to the national grid.
