The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has released new guidelines for students and schools participating in the upcoming Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). This global education benchmarking initiative is scheduled to begin in September 2025.
- The assessment will include 15-year-old students enrolled in Grade 7 or higher, chosen because they are nearing the end of compulsory education.
- KNEC noted that Kenya will join over 90 countries in the assessment, which evaluates education systems on students' application of knowledge in science, mathematics, and reading to real-world situations.
- Over 250 schools, including both junior and secondary schools from diverse areas, have been selected, with a maximum of 42 students sampled per school.
- Students will undergo a Computer-Based Assessment (CBA), with KNEC providing the necessary laptops.
