The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has appointed Sukyan Omar Hassan as the Acting Chief Kadhi, following the death of Sheikh Athman Abdul-Halim. His appointment, effective August 6, 2025, is for a period of three months or until a substantive appointment is made.

• Sukyan Omar Hassan, a Senior Principal Kadhi, has over 15 years of experience in the Kadhis’ Court system.
• The position became vacant after the death of Chief Kadhi Sheikh Athman Abdul-Halim on July 10.
• Hassan has served in various coastal and northern counties, including Mombasa, Lamu, Garissa, and Kilifi.
