Kenya and Iran have agreed to form a joint committee within 60 days to lift Iran's ban on Kenyan tea exports. This decision follows a diplomatic fallout caused by a Kenyan company re-exporting low-grade tea as high-grade, leading to its deregistration and impending prosecution.

• The ban was imposed after a Kenyan company illegally exported low-grade tea to Iran, damaging Kenya's reputation.
• The agreement was reached during the 7th Session of the Kenya–Iran Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) in Nairobi, attended by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.
• In 2023, Kenya exported 12.4 million kilograms of tea to Iran, valued at KSh 4.28 billion, underscoring the economic impact of the ban on the tea sector.
