The High Court has ruled the formation of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) pending claims verification committee as unconstitutional, delivering a blow to Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale. The committee, established just four months prior, was found to have usurped powers belonging to the Auditor General.

• The ruling was delivered by Justice Ruben Nyakundi.
• The petition challenging the committee was filed by Nakuru-based doctor Magare Gikenyi.
• CS Duale had appointed the committee on March 28 to verify pending medical claims.
