Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has ordered all county governors to immediately clear over Ksh103.2 billion in unpaid pension contributions to government retirees. Speaking at the Devolution Conference in Homa Bay County on Friday, August 15, Mbadi condemned the accumulated debt as a "felony" and a betrayal of public trust.

• The total pension debt stands at over Ksh103.2 billion as of October 31, 2024, accumulating from Ksh23.3 billion in pre-devolution arrears.

• Mbadi announced that his ministry is developing a framework to enforce mandatory pension deductions and remittances across all 47 counties.
