Two Kenyan high school students, Jael Achieng and Blessed Kyalo, are set to represent Kenya at the Global Youth Institute in Iowa, USA, in October after their food security innovations won at the Food Security Youth Conference. Their projects focused on addressing vital food security challenges with practical, innovative solutions.
- Jael Achieng, from Loresho Secondary in Nairobi, presented on Bosnia and Herzegovina, proposing community nutrition hubs, home gardening programs, and school feeding initiatives.
- Blessed Kyalo, from AIC Tangu Comprehensive School in Makueni County, focused on Ethiopia, suggesting sustainable water harvesting systems and cover crops to enhance food security.
- The students were selected by a panel of 18 judges and will join over 3,000 students from more than 50 countries at the competition.
