The Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) has been awarded the prestigious fifth Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize in the medical services category by the Government of Japan. This recognition honors DNDi's groundbreaking work in developing treatments for diseases affecting vulnerable communities, with much of the innovation led by African scientists.
- DNDi has developed 13 new treatments for six deadly diseases since its founding in 2003, with nine delivered from Africa.
- Prof. Samuel Kariuki, DNDi Continental Lead for Africa and Eastern Africa Director, accepted the award, highlighting a patient-centered model of medical innovation led by African scientists.
