The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has formed a multi-agency team to investigate over 1,000 files detailing alleged fraud within the Social Health Authority (SHA). This crackdown follows the handover of 1,188 files from Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, with the aim of quickly prosecuting those involved and recovering fraudulently acquired assets.

• The DCI received 1,188 files from SHA and the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
• Health CS Aden Duale categorized the SHA files into 3 categories, with 24 facilities showing evidence of fraud.
• Accused fraudulent practices include billing for more costly procedures, falsifying records, and submitting claims for non-existent patients.
• Penalties for facility owners if found guilty include fines of up to Ksh2 million and removal from the register of providers.
