The U.S. Department of State has announced significant changes to immigrant visa interview locations, effective November 1, 2025. Applicants will now be required to attend interviews at the consular post in their country of residence or nationality, ending the practice of interviews in third countries.

• Interviews for Kenyans will continue at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi.
• Nairobi is designated as the official interview center for applicants from Somalia and South Sudan, and potentially Eritrea.
• The new policy also applies to Diversity Visa (DV) applicants, starting with the DV-2026 program year.
• Existing scheduled appointments will generally proceed as planned and are not affected by the change.
• Exceptions for humanitarian, medical emergencies, or foreign policy considerations may be granted.
