Four members of a Kirinyaga family, Julius Mwangi, his wife Winnie Njoki, and their two children, Grace Wawira and Ivyjune Njeri, were buried in a single grave after perishing in a tragic house fire. The incident has prompted calls for investigations into its cause.

• Njoki and her two daughters died on August 16, 2025 in a fire at their rented home in Ngurubani town, while Mwangi, who escaped with severe burns, died on August 29, 2025 at Mwea Mission Hospital.
• During the funeral, Tebere Ward MCA Peter Karinga revealed that Mwangi had claimed the family was attacked by unknown assailants before the fire.
• The family expressed gratitude to Martin Muthiga for coordinating funeral arrangements and Kenya Seed Company chairperson Purity Wangui Ngirici, who settled the mortuary bills, ensuring Mwangi’s body was released.
