The Nairobi County Government has launched a major crackdown on illegal power connections within the CBD after an unauthorized electricity distribution hub was discovered and dismantled near the National Archives. These illegal setups are believed to be enabling criminal gangs and compromising security infrastructure, including CCTV networks and street lighting.

• Over 300 suspects have been arrested in connection with mugging cases in the CBD.
• The operation is a joint effort by the Nairobi County Government, Kenya Power, and the National Police Service.
• Governor Johnson Sakaja stated that illegal connections not only disrupt the power grid but also make it easier for gangs to operate in the dark, with areas like Moi Avenue and Kenyatta Avenue being particularly affected.
