The Ministry of Energy & Petroleum has initiated a program for local manufacturing and distribution of subsidized 6kg LPG cylinders, inviting Expressions of Interest (EoI) from manufacturers. This move aims to fulfill President William Ruto's 2022 campaign promise to make gas cylinders more accessible to Kenyans.

• Cost-sharing Model: The Government of Kenya will cover 40 per cent of the cost, LPG marketing firms 40 per cent, and consumers a 20 per cent deposit.
• Key Organizations: The State Department for Petroleum is overseeing the distribution across all 47 counties, with a preference for rural and peri-urban areas, and EPRA (Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority) will direct track-and-trace technology for accountability.
• Target Audience: The program specifically targets households in areas with low LPG penetration, ensuring access to clean energy with accompanying seed gas and accessories like burners and grills.
