Kenya will host the first Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Innovation Summit from September 16–18, 2025, at Strathmore Business School, Nairobi. This event, part of the Kenyan-German GreenTech Innovation Programme, aims to strengthen Kenya's e-waste sector through research and innovation.
- Kenya generates approximately 80,000 tonnes of WEEE annually, with only a small fraction formally recycled by two licensed facilities (around 240 and 135 tonnes per year).
- The program is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection and implemented by AHK Services Eastern Africa Ltd.
- The recent gazettement of Extended Producer Responsibility regulations in November 2024 makes Kenya the first East African country to hold producers accountable for products’ full life cycle.
