Governor Abdulswamad Shariff of Mombasa County has issued a stern warning to contractors, threatening to blacklist those who fail to deliver on government projects, particularly in the water sector. This comes as his administration aims to improve service delivery and accountability.

• Governor Abdulswamad stated that Mombasa would spearhead blacklisting efforts through the Council of Governors and the Senate for non-compliant companies and shareholders.
• The warning followed his appearance before the Senate County Public Investments Committee, which is scrutinizing county entities like the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital and the Mombasa Water Supply and Sanitation Company.
• Intensified crackdowns on illegal water connections have already reduced non-revenue water by over 7 percent in the past month, improving supply to areas like Likoni and the West Mainland.
• The issue of underperforming contractors was previously flagged in July by Deputy Chief of Staff Eliud Owalo, who highlighted a trend of politically shielded contractors delivering substandard work.
