Former Chesumei MP and Boston Marathon champion Elijah Lagat has passed away at Eldoret Hospital on Tuesday morning. He was a distinguished athlete and served in various political capacities.

• Elijah Kiptarbei Lagat died while receiving treatment at Eldoret Hospital.

• At the time of his death, he was a board member at the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

• He famously won the 104th Boston Marathon in the United States in 2000.

• Lagat was first elected to Parliament in 2007 for Emgwen Constituency and re-elected in 2013 for Chesumei Constituency.
