The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has launched a nationwide crackdown on individuals and entities selling falsified drugs, specifically targeting a fake batch of Avastin (Bevacizumab 100MG) injection.
- The falsified drug, batch H0573B01, is falsely purported to be manufactured by a Swiss-based company and is used to treat diabetic eye disease.
- PPB CEO Ahmed Mohamed stated that legal action will be taken against those circulating the drug, which contravenes the Pharmacy and Poisons Act (CAP 244).
- The crackdown follows a previous announcement in July by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale targeting pharmacies operating without valid licenses or employing unqualified personnel.
