Kisumu Port is experiencing significant growth in maritime activity, marked by increasing vessel traffic and cargo volumes. The recent maiden call of the Mv Mpungu, a 96-meter-long cargo vessel from Uganda, underscores its expanding role in East Africa's inland shipping.

• Cargo volumes at the port have increased from 281,000 metric tonnes last year to 324,000 metric tonnes this year, with projected throughput of 400,000 metric tons by year-end.
• The Mv Mpungu, operated by Grindrod Logistics Africa under East Africa Marine Transport (EAMT), has a cargo capacity of 1,000 tonnes and a roll-on/roll-off design for efficient loading.
