The Kenyan government has announced plans to acquire land for several major infrastructure projects, including the expansion of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), oil development in the South Lokichar Basin, and the construction of the Mwache Multipurpose Dam in Kwale County. The National Lands Commission (NLC) is directing communities and companies to submit claims for compensation.

  • Land acquisition targets include the Nairobi–Naivasha SGR Project (Phase 2A) in Kajiado County and the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR Phase I extension.
  • The South Lokichar Basin oil project in Turkana County requires parcels for grazing, residential areas, oil wells, and water points.
  • The Mwache Multipurpose Dam Project in Kwale County needs land for the Upper Check Dam across several villages.
  • Additionally, 49 parcels of land will be acquired for the Nyali Bridge-Mtwapa-Kwa Kadzengo-Kilifi Road, overseen by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), with NLC Chairperson Gershom Otachi confirming corrections to 22 other parcels and the addition of 19 parcels.
