The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists' Union (KMPDU) has vehemently rejected a proposal by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale to restrict public sector doctors' insurance pre-authorisations to off-duty hours (outside 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

• The proposed policy aims to curb conflict of interest and rising insurance costs but KMPDU deems it "operationally unrealistic" and disconnected from clinical realities.
• The union highlighted severe workforce shortages and dual practice as coping mechanisms within the public health system.
• KMPDU demands immediate engagement with the Ministry of Health, Social Health Authority (SHA), and Digital Health Agency (DHA), threatening industrial, legal, or advocacy actions if the policy is unilaterally implemented without consultation.
