The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has ordered the immediate closure of 15 rehabilitation facilities across Kenya due to severe violations that jeopardized client safety. This action follows a nationwide inspection conducted under a Rapid Results Initiative (RRI).

• NACADA inspected 236 facilities in 36 counties, leading to the accreditation of 135 facilities with a combined bed capacity of nearly 3800.
• The 15 facilities were closed for critical issues including expired medicines, poor hygiene, unsafe structures, and a lack of qualified medical personnel.
• An additional 56 facilities have compliance gaps and will be closely monitored, while 30 facilities were denied accreditation. Over 1.3 million Kenyans require treatment, with a critical shortage of public, affordable, and specialized services for women and adolescents.
