The Kenyan Ministry of Health (MoH) is establishing an anti-fraud police unit to combat the increasing number of unlicensed medical practitioners offering fraudulent health services across the country. This crackdown follows the recent death of Amos Isoka, who succumbed to complications from a botched tooth extraction by a quack dentist in Kawangware.

• Among the items seized from the illegal clinic in Kawangware were: laboratory equipment, assorted drugs, and an identification card bearing the name “Lowrence King’atua Kamau.”
• Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale stated that the MoH will digitize the healthcare system, creating a central dashboard of all licensed and illegal practitioners.
• A new regulatory framework, the “scope of practice,” will be instituted to ensure medical procedures are performed only by trained practitioners, eliminating “grey areas.”
