Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has proposed new legislation to regulate campaign financing for the 2027 General Election, placing Members of Parliament (MPs) under scrutiny as they consider restrictions on donations.

• The IEBC urged MPs to ban campaign donations from foreign governments and other donors, and to revise Section 11 of the Elections Campaign Financing Act.
• National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula directed the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) and the Constitution Implementation and Oversight Committee to meet with the IEBC within four months to address these proposals.
• The proposed regulations aim to require the disclosure of fund sources and set spending ceilings, ensuring a more transparent and credible election.
