President William Ruto has announced a joint national and county government initiative to clear the Dandora dumpsite and transform Nairobi's waste management. This comprehensive plan involves relocating garbage, establishing a new landfill in Ruai, and building a modern waste treatment facility.

The National Government will jointly finance the program with the Nairobi City County Government, with over Ksh 4 billion pumped in by the President.
Garbage removal from Dandora will begin gradually, with a new landfill site identified in Ruai.
Contracts have been awarded for a modern waste treatment facility that will convert refuse into fertiliser, energy, and other usable products, targeting completion by 2027.
Official garbage collection from residential estates and urban centres is scheduled to start on April 1.
