The Kenyan government has officially established the National Government Administration Police Unit (NGAPU), a new specialized unit within the National Police Service, to bolster support for government operations and enhance grassroots security.
- The establishment was announced by Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, via Legal Notice No. 201 on December 24, 2025.
- NGAPU will provide protective security to government officers, enforce national policies, and assist in conflict management, with officers also tasked with apprehending offenders and preserving exhibits.
- The unit will have a Commandant responsible to the Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service and will be structured with regional, county, sub-county, and ward/division unit officers.
- NGAPU officers will be entitled to applicable allowances as determined by the NPSC and will receive assistance from police stations when making arrests or needing support.
