The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has strongly denounced a "shoot-to-kill" order issued by Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno targeting suspected gang members, branding it unconstitutional and a threat to democracy.

• Chairperson Claris Ogangah stated the directive violates Article 244 (c) of the Constitution, which mandates police to comply with human rights standards.
• The order was given on February 7, instructing officers to use lethal force against machete-wielding gangs known as the Panga Boys terrorizing Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale counties.
• The KNCHR warned that the directive could lead to extrajudicial executions and the profiling of innocent Kenyans, particularly youths in informal settlements.
