President William Ruto announced plans to reclassify the job groups of Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) from D4 to E2, aligning with Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) recommendations. This move seeks to acknowledge MCAs' significant responsibilities and role in strengthening devolution, leading to higher salaries and allowances.

• The reclassification from D4 to E2 means MCAs, currently earning Ksh144,375 to Ksh166,588 monthly, will see increased remuneration.
• President Ruto also pledged support for the County Assemblies Pension Scheme Bill and the Ward Development Fund (WDF), which comprises at least 10 percent of a county's budget.
• MCAs were previously pushing for salary increases to between Ksh400,000 and Ksh500,000 in 2022.
