The COMESA Competition and Consumer Commission (CCPC) has initiated an investigation into Meta Platforms Ireland Limited for alleged abuse of dominance concerning its WhatsApp Business API.

• Meta is accused of unilaterally amending WhatsApp Business Solution Terms in October 2025, reportedly blocking general-purpose AI providers while maintaining access for its own AI services.
• The investigation aims to determine if these amendments restrict or distort competition in the region's digital services sector, as stated by Chief Executive Officer Willard Mwemba.
• This probe marks a significant test of COMESA's competition framework against a global tech firm, with stakeholders invited to submit representations by March 16, 2026.
