Kenya has called for enhanced international cooperation and capacity-building to combat the increasing global threat of synthetic drugs at the 69th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) in Vienna.

• Kenya is urging the international community to prioritize support for developing countries in strengthening forensic labs and monitoring drug trafficking networks.
• Stephen Mairori, the Chair of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) Board and head of Kenya’s delegation, highlighted the evolving drug market and the challenges posed by synthetic substances.
• Unlike plant-based drugs, synthetic drugs can be manufactured easily and are harder to detect, with a growing trend of mixing substances to create more potent drugs.
