President William Ruto reportedly called the cardiologist treating his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, on October 17, 2024, to inquire about his health after he was admitted to hospital with severe chest pain.

The call was made by the President of the Republic of Kenya while Mr Gachagua was under the care of Chief Cardiologist and Founder Dr Daniel Gikonyo at Karen Hospital in Nairobi.
This revelation is part of court filings in an ongoing constitutional case challenging the legality of Mr Gachagua's removal as Deputy President.
Mr Gachagua was admitted complaining of severe chest pain on the same day the Senate proceeded with deliberations that led to the upholding of several impeachment charges against him.
