✨ Key Highlights

Kenya and the United States have agreed to impose visa restrictions on individuals implicated in global illegal fishing networks. The landmark decision was announced at the 11th Our Ocean Conference (OOC11) in Mombasa.

This marks the first-ever use of visa restrictions by the U.S. to specifically target individuals involved in Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing.
The agreement is supported by a Ksh12.4 billion (USD96 million) maritime security commitment, with over Ksh6.7 billion directed at combating IUU fishing.
Countries like China, Russia, Iran, and Indonesia are among those likely to be affected by these new restrictions.
