The High Court has stopped Kenya Power from disconnecting electricity to county governments over unpaid bills without first exhausting the proper dispute resolution mechanism.

• Kenya Power, an agency of the national government, cannot bypass constitutional requirements governing relations between national and county governments.
• Disputes must be reported to the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury, who then reports to Parliament for appropriation.
• This ruling follows Kenya Power's disconnection of electricity to several Nairobi County offices on February 14, 2025.
