Kenya's Cabinet has approved significant reforms to combat widespread payroll fraud within the government, following an audit that revealed suspected irregularities amounting to Sh6.2 billion.

• The reforms include a nationwide payroll audit, criminal investigations, and the migration of all public institutions to a new payroll management system utilizing the Integrated Human Resource and Payroll System.
• The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has been directed to investigate the fraud, verify personnel numbers, recover funds, and prosecute those responsible.
• Key decisions also encompass cost-cutting measures, AI strategy, digital economy promotion, judiciary development, El Nino preparedness, dam projects, health cooperation, and manufacturing sector support.
