The County Government of Kirinyaga is collaborating with the National Government and the Kenya Institute of Primate Research (KIPRE) to map snakebite hotspots across the county, aiming to enhance local antivenom development and improve public health response.

• This initiative marks the first comprehensive study of snakebite burden in Kirinyaga.
• Key organizations involved include the County Government of Kirinyaga, KIPRE through the Kenya Snakebite Research and Intervention Centre (K-SRIC), and Community Health Promoters (CHPs).
• The project will equip CHPs with specialized training on snakebite prevention, first aid, and referral, while generating data to support the development of an affordable and effective antivenom tailored to local snake species like the red spitting cobra and black mamba.
