The High Court has halted the implementation of new regulations that would have expanded the scope of dental practice for non-dentists, pending a constitutional petition.

• The conservatory orders issued by the court preserve the status quo until Constitutional Petition No. E499 of 2026 is heard and determined.
• The petition was filed by the Kenya Dental Association (KDA) alongside Dr Kahura Mundia and Dr Arnold Malit.
• The disputed guidelines, issued by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), allegedly allow Community Oral Health Officers to perform procedures like non-surgical tooth extractions and fillings, which are traditionally reserved for licensed dentists.
