Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi has expanded its newborn screening service to facilitate the early detection and intervention of congenital conditions in newborns.

• The new service offers a panel of tests, including screening for congenital hypothyroidism, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, cystic fibrosis, galactosemia, and sickle cell disease.
• Key figures include Dr. Daniel Maina, Assistant Professor at Aga Khan University Medical College and Consultant Pathologist at AKUH, N, and Rashid Khalani, Chief Executive Officer of Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi.
• The minimally invasive test, requiring a few drops of blood from the baby's heel, is conducted between 48 and 72 hours after birth to ensure timely treatment and prevent serious complications.
