The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has filed a lawsuit against Mombasa County and several state agencies to halt ongoing construction at the historic Treasury Square Gardens.

• The LSK alleges that construction, which began around July 2026, is on public recreational land without proper constitutional, environmental, or public participation approvals.
• Key entities sued include the Mombasa County Assembly, the Attorney General, the National Land Commission, and the National Environment Management Authority (Nema).
• The LSK is seeking conservatory orders to stop all development, and if found unlawful, to have structures demolished and the gardens restored to their original state.
