The Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) is planning a new Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) at Kisumu Port to enhance emergency response capabilities on Lake Victoria.

The project, currently undergoing an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, will be implemented in two phases, including construction of the MRCC building, an ambulance bay, parking, a 20-metre jetty, and a boat spillway.
The facility aims to provide a permanent base for search-and-rescue operations, improving response times and coordination for distress situations.
The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is seeking public comments on the project within 30 days.
