Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) has activated an 86.4-kilometre 132kV power line connecting Nanyuki and Rumuruti, significantly improving electricity reliability for Mount Kenya residents.

• The new line is expected to reduce the distance electricity travels to Rumuruti by about 50 per cent.
• Key organizations involved include KETRACO, funded by the Kenyan government, the African Development Bank, and India’s Exim Bank.
• The Ksh2.5 billion project, which began in 2023, also incorporates 16.8 kilometres of underground cables near Laikipia Airbase.
