Governors Barchok and Wangamati Arraigned on Corruption Charges - September 2025

Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok and former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati submitted themselves to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over corruption-linked charges. The EACC arrested Governor Barchok in connection with a Ksh 7.5 million corruption case. Along with ten other suspects, they were arraigned at the Anti-Corruption court in Milimani. Governor Barchok faced three charges, including conflict of interest, fraudulently acquiring public funds, and money laundering, all of which he denied. Both Barchok and Wangamati pleaded not guilty to the corruption allegations and were released on bail. Barchok was released on a Sh5m bail and Wangamati on a Sh1.5m bail.
