Dispute Arises Over Junior Secondary Teachers' Demands for Independence and Permanent Jobs - November 2025

Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers in Murang'a County are threatening to strike if the Ministry of Education does not offer them permanent employment, protesting their current contracts and low pay. Their demands have led to conflict with primary school unions. The Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA) has officially rejected the demands made by JSS teachers for independent operation. This has created a conflict between the unions, even as primary school headteachers claim success in overseeing the Grade 6 examinations.
